From Dubai to Canada: Andreas Görzen is considered a trendy newcomer in the art scene

Bright colors, crazy comic motifs and black light art. The former pizza maker Andreas Görzen has taken the pulse of the times with his art. In the meantime, it's not just gallery owners internationally who are courting him. Even rap stars like Capital Bra come for him from Dubai to tranquil Hachenburg. His works now change hands for five-figure sums, and collectors are already storing his paintings as investments.

A pizza maker on the road to success

His story sounds like a script for a Netflix movie. A pizza baker who takes off on the art market and now sells works for over 25,000 euros. Andreas Görzen from Hachenburg in Rhineland-Palatinate worked behind the counter of a pizzeria for a long time. However, a visit to an art fair was the initial spark for him to take a closer look at art. So he studied the biographies of famous painters and got started. He exhibited his first paintings next to the bakery in the restaurant, with surprising success. After just a few weeks, he sold his first painting for 70 euros. A little later followed the first exhibition in Basel with 11 works sold in already four figures. "I realized that this was my calling," says Görzen looking back. So the Rhineland-Palatinate native worked behind the pizza oven during the day and painted his works at night. Until he quit his job in 2018 and has since focused entirely on creative work. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to his in-laws' family-run pizzeria. Today, his 150-square-meter gallery is located in the adjacent building. Here he welcomes interested people by appointment, and they come from all over Germany.

Galleries and art experts out of their minds

Görzen has not had to search for suitable galleries for a long. After all, they come forward all by themselves. His schedule is already fully booked until 2024. Exhibitions in 5-star restaurants, luxury hotels, and museums – both in Germany and internationally – will follow in the coming months. To keep track of all the requests, Görzen now has help from his own assistant. This is necessary because the inquiries come from all over the world. Buyers come from France, Canada, and Switzerland, among other countries. A separate circle of collectors has already developed who regard paintings as an investment. Time and again, well-known personalities are among Görzen's customers. Only recently, he received an inquiry from star rapper Kapital Bra. The latter found his portrait so fascinating that he would like to visit the artist in person to buy the work. When the rapper posted the work on his social platforms overnight, Andreas Görzen's cell phone no longer stood still. In addition to requests for exhibitions, there are always special requests. Soon, the artist will paint a vintage Porsche. At the request of a collector who is enthusiastic about the style of the former pizza maker.

Bright colors, cheerful art, and good humor.

The crucified Jesus, Karl Lagerfeld, running horses, bouncing cartoon characters, and impressive architecture. Andreas Görzen's works all have one thing in common: they are shrill, loud, and full of bright colors in a style all their own. "I want to make cheerful art and spread good cheer," says the artist about his paintings. The ideas often come from his encounters with people. Sometimes he wakes up in the night with inspirations and writes them down. Over the next few days, the thoughts are transformed into haptic works. In the process, Görzen retreats to his gallery. Undisturbed by everyday life – not even his wife is allowed to visit him then. "Then I forget everything around me," says the painter. Where does his talent come from? He doesn't know himself. It is simply there and wants to come out.

Emotional encounters in own gallery

If you want to see the works of Andreas Görzen, you need an appointment. In the meantime, people travel from all over - sometimes even taking special leave. Görzen loves direct contact with interested people. Just the other day, an overjoyed couple came to him and bought their first painting. For three years, they had to save up for it. "Such moments simply touch me," says the artist.

The personal story of the former pizza maker now also excites the media houses. They regularly report on the newcomer's career in the international art market. TV stations have also accompanied the painter at work.
