Interview with Miriam Breuninger

With her artworks, Miriam Breuninger challenges the viewer to self-awareness and holds up a mirror to their own personality, as her richly detailed motifs allow viewers to recognize their own strengths, weaknesses, and authenticity and encourage deeper self-reflection. By combining emotional depth with visual art, Miriam Breuninger creates a unique experience for the viewer and challenges them to look not only at the positive aspects of their own personality, but also at the difficult ones in order to use these insights to also gain true strength and self-confidence in their own lives.

Why did you decide to pursue an artistic career?

I have always been interested in art, and even in school, I was certified as having the relevant talent.

What inspires your work every day?

Nature and the environment.

‍‍

What themes do you address in your art, and why is it so important to you?

Nature with its unadulterated strength and the emotions that arise from it. Because in our time, we so often lose ourselves in the hectic and externally determined action that we forget how important the aspects of one's own being and abilities are.

"I visualize my strength in my paintings so that the viewer can also feel this power and thereby become aware of his own energy, which lies dormant in him and gives him stability."

‍‍

What aspect of the creative process do you enjoy the most?

I love breathing life into my artwork.

How would you describe your technique?

I use materials such as oil, acrylic, or charcoal, along with selected tools, to render each artwork as faithfully as possible. From the careful study of anatomy to the use of shading and textures, I create each artwork to be as lifelike as possible.

Do you start your work with a preconceived concept or idea of what you want to achieve, or is the result unexpected?

Yes, I always have a clear concept in mind when I start a work. It can then happen that I change something in the concept while painting because, for example, something doesn't come across the way I imagined it, but that happens rather rarely.

"I want to encourage people to be themselves and feel strong and confident in doing so." - Miriam Breuninger

How do you know or decide when a piece of art is finished?

My artwork is finished when I am truly satisfied with the effect it is meant to create. However, this standard is not the same for every painting, as I also have to adjust the requirement for the level of detail in the painting to the scale of the commission. Sometimes I get to the point where I have to decide the image is done even though I can keep working on it. On the one hand, it is the fact that the picture must still be affordable. On the other hand, the fear of painting the picture broken...

What other creative people, books, music, or movies inspire you?

The most important person who inspires and supports me is my husband, who is an artist himself as a musician, as well as artists Carla Grace, Andrew Tischler, and Fabiano Milani.

Do you have certain rituals or indispensable items in the studio?

Yes, headphones with good music are a must when working.

Gepard - 40x40cm
Do you work with real-life examples, or are your works mainly based on fantasy?

Life is my inspiration.

How do you come up with the titles of your artworks?

Different. Sometimes the name comes from the motif I paint, and sometimes the title stands for a feeling I want to express with the artwork.

Would you tell us more about your current project? What are you working on?

I just finished a painting that will be used as a motif for a CD cover. This commissioned work was particularly exciting because I was only given an atmosphere, or mood, by the band to create in the viewer.

Tigerin Naga - 80x80cm

Where would you like to exhibit and why?

Certainly, there are galleries where I would like to see my art, but it seems more important to me that I reach as many people as possible with my art, regardless of place and time, thereby enriching their lives.

Where do you see your career as an artist in five years?

My craft skills have visibly developed or improved in parallel with my commercial success.
