Céline Frericks: The abstract painting for self-realization
Shimmering soft blue shapes that run into each other. Partly on a neutral white background and partly dominantly set off on black paint. Céline Frerick's abstract art is, above all, a tribute to the potential and strengths of the human being. The artist also draws her inspiration from her dealings with small personalities.
Abstractness as liberation
The enthusiasm for shapes and colors is in Céline Frericks' blood, so to speak. Her grandfather was already a passionate artist. She herself has been strongly interested in the possibilities of art since the age of 15, Frericks says. Even at a young age, she was able to accompany established artists at work as part of a project. Impressions that further ignited the passion. In the course of the pandemic, the Swiss kindergarten teacher devoted herself more intensively to art again and became even more involved with colors, techniques, and styles. The abstract realm, she says, is her great passion. "I have the feeling that I have arrived here," she says. In the meantime, painting takes up a significant part of her life. Among other things, the inspiration for her works come from her job with the children. The still naive view of things encourages her in her work. Above all, Céline Frericks is able to give expression to her emotions in the process. "I leave the stress behind and let the creativity flow," she says. Accompanied by music, she then gives herself over to colors and shapes. For the artist from Bern, painting has become an important part of her personal development and self-realization.
Mindfulness in blue colors
For Céline Frericks, it is, above all, the freedom that fascinates her about abstract style. No limits, no predetermined shapes and figures. She usually paints two to three pictures at the same time, using a lot of water and oil pastels in addition to acrylic paint. It can take up to three weeks to complete a work. To let her creativity flow, the Swiss artist has created her own studio with plenty of daylight. Her painting is, above all, an expression of mindfulness and is intended to encourage the viewer to consider the possibilities of life. In this context, the color blue plays a central role in Céline Frerick's works. "The color reflects my calm and sensitive personality." In this regard, many of her works are inspired by a formative trip through Portugal and the encounters with the people there. She soaks up these moods and emotions like a sponge, says the artist from the Bernese Oberland. For her, self-realization, in particular, comes first. A meaningful activity for herself and for other people - that combines her work as a kindergarten teacher with her passion for art. This is where she finds peace, says the Swiss artist. It's like a meditation, she says, when she puts her colors on the canvas with her brush and creates new forms out of nothing.
The first exhibitions and visions for the future
A few years ago, she ventured into the public eye with her art. The Swiss artist presented her works to the public at her first solo and group exhibitions. Those interested were particularly enthusiastic about the rich blue tones of her paintings. The first works changed hands for four-figure sums in some cases. Frericks also often receives positive feedback from other artists about her flowing forms and color variations. Her canvases range in size from a few centimeters to almost one and a half meters. In the meantime, many interested parties also comment on her works on social media. In the meantime, her videos have been viewed tens of thousands of times by an international audience. For Céline Frericks, this is an important confirmation of her work. For her, the abstract style is the best way of expressing her messages. At the same time, she herself is considered the best example of the fact that everyone can realize their potential if they find the courage and strength to do so. For the coming months, a new large series is in the pipeline. In this, impressive sunsets and the emotions felt for them will serve her as inspiration. Further exhibitions in Switzerland are already planned.
